Chassis Construction
Chassis Design & Construction
a) At first chassis designing factors were taken into consideration.
b) Then a free hand sketch was developed.
c) Later on it was further tuned by “Solid works” software.
d) While designing our project we focused on light weight but high strength. The designed chassis is
made of 1”X1” & 2”X1” hollow square, rectangular bar & 1.5 inch diameter cylindrical pipe made of
stainless steel. All the bars & pipes used here are of 1.5mm thickness.
e) Material for chassis 1”X1” & 2”X1” hollow stainless steel bar of 1.5 mm thickness was purchased.
f) The bars were cut & joined by welding.
g) Here all the joining was done by arc welding using SS electrode.
Final Chassis Dimensions
Length: 180 cm
Breadth: 105 cm
Height: 12 cm
Weight: 15 kg

Problems faced in chassis designing & constructing
· 1. Strength & weight carrying capacity simulation on solid works software was quite difficult.
· 2. Arc welding of the bars & pips were exhausting.
· 3. As the thickness of the bars & pipes were only 1.5 mm, a careful attention was paid to avoid penetration.
· 4. Lots of welding defects were found & corrected.
